Data sources, accuracy & removals
Texas listings come from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) public tow company license file (TowCompanies.csv), which TDLR updates daily. These are licensed tow companies.
Every other state and DC: listings come from the FMCSA Company Census File: active USDOT registrations whose business name indicates towing ("tow", "towing", "wrecker"), or "roadside"/"recovery" plus a motor-vehicle or drive/tow-away cargo flag, and that have filed their MCS-150 since 2023. In a few small states where that left fewer than 100 companies, we also include tow-named USDOT registrations whose last update was in 2021 or 2022; these are marked older filing. Name-based filtering misses tow companies whose name doesn't say "towing", and can include some non-towing businesses (for example repossession or transport companies).
Towing association members: we add tow operators (never vendors or associate members) from the public member directories of these associations, and mark matching listings as members: Arizona Professional Towing & Recovery Association (APTRA), Garden State Towing Association (GSTA), Indiana Towing & Wrecker Association (ITWA), Minnesota Professional Towing Association (MPTA), Nevada State Tow Association (NSTA), Professional Towing & Recovery Operators of Illinois (PTROI), Towing and Recovery Association of America (TRAA), Towing & Recovery Association of Georgia (TRAG), Towing & Recovery Association of Kentucky (TRAK), Towing & Recovery Association of Ohio (TRAO), Towing & Recovery Professionals of Connecticut (TRPC), Towing & Recovery Professionals of Maryland (TRPM), Utah Professional Towing Alliance (UPTA), Virginia Association of Towing & Recovery Operators (VATRO), Vermont Towing Association (VTA), Wisconsin Towing Association (WTA). We match them to the government records by name, city and phone, and only show company name, city and business phone. We don't publish contact names or emails from these lists.
State tow licenses and rotation lists: Rhode Island listings include the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers Certified Towers list (Oct 13, 2026). Anchorage, Alaska listings include the Anchorage Police Department rotational tow list (last revised 2020).
To protect owner privacy, we don't publish owners' personal names, and we hide phone numbers for FMCSA records registered to an individual rather than a business.
Listings marked Added by the company or Claimed by owner were sent to us by the business through our listing form.
We do not use Google Maps data. Last refreshed: Oct 16, 2026.
